#16- Opinion ( local issue)

 The issue with cheerleaders are getting sexually assault and abused by their teammates or other well know- cheerleaders  

There have been a lot of talk about cheerleaders getting sexually assault by their coach and even teammates, but nothing is ever said because the victims are too scared because of the way their peers might treat them after. 

we have all seen the show on Netflix called "cheer". we all know what Jerry Harris was a well- know cheerleader mostly know for is cheerful sprit and his contagious smile. He is now in prison sentenced to 12 years for sex crimes. He allegedly persuaded a 17-year old to send him sexually explicit photos for money and also  he attempted to have sex with a 15- year old. 

the boys was every nervous coming out about what had happened to them just because they were scared of how people many treat them. Everything had happened to them in the highlight of Jerris popularly. They two where big fans of Jerry and were scared at first to get him in trouble. 

This is not the first thing that has happened where a cheerleader has been getting taken advantage of by people that are in the cheer world. There was another story where a cheerleader at navarro  the same collage Jerry Harris went to where the cheer coach there was trying to cover up or stop her from reporting the assault. 

Im not going to get into the whole story but the student that got assaulted sued the coach and other employees for trying to suppress the students account of being assaulted in the fall of 2021.

I hate how this girl finally got the strength to come out a talk to someone about what happened to her and the one person that is supposed to support her was trying to shut her up. I understand that navarro has great athletes and are know mainly for the success that they have in the cheer world but that should make Monica the cheer coach at navarro what to protect her athletes rather than try and shut them up.
